We usually go out to eat with DH's family on Christmas Eve. However, no one has mentioned anything yet, so I am crossing my fingers that we are off the hook this year. I certainly won't be bringing the subject up. Your idea of Italian beef sounds good, vegetarian DD can figure out what she wants to eat.
On Christmas, my mom is in charge of munchies for the day and DH usually makes a breakfast casserole. I'm going to make DF's cinnamon rolls that she wrote about over at MUM's place. Then for dinner we will have what I posted above.

I hesitated for days posting cuz I cannot stomach what is on the menu at MILs on Christmas day. Deer stew and some kind of dehydrated meat rolls that are tough as shoe leather. Now even after typing it I want to erase it so you guys won't have to imagine it.
I will do seafood Christmas Eve. I take Mom to her friends house for the day to have fun. Carol does all kinds of goodies I usually have a napkin of treats in my pocket when I leave.

Well my menu has changed.
While I was at Meijer, they announced Prime Rib Roasts for $5.99 lb. Bought a huge one. Hope I don't screw it up. Any tips?

Thanks DF. I will do my usual. Hide the tough stuff under the mashed potatoes like a little kid.

Well my menu has changed. While I was at Meijer, they announced Prime Rib Roasts for $5.99 lb. Bought a huge one. Hope I don't screw it up. Any tips? that is funny, my menu changed 3 times today. My mom and dad were supposed to be coming up and mom was bringing the turkey. She called this morning that my dad is still sick and been coughing badly for 3 days. SO...menu changed from turkey to ideas a of prime rib or a roast. My Dh said he didn't want our 1st time cooking this being today since we never cooked one before and don't want the stress of possibly screwing it up. I totally agreed!! So we decided ham and DH said lets splurge and get a honey baked. Drove there and the line was 30 people deep at the store, WTF??!! So, turned around and came home and were planning to head to Jewel for a ham when my brother called and suggested Portillos Italian beef....so, that is what we are having. LOL Still planning the normal sides of green bean casserole, corn, 7 layer salad, and I happened to have a pasta dish I pulled out to thaw for yesterday that we never ate so that will be tonight. Just pulled a pumpkin pie from freezer so that will be desert. Nothing like planning a menu on the fly.....
On a side note, feeling a little sad as this will be the first Christmas Eve that I ever spent without my folks. =0(

Val, cranberry Brie crostini was really good! I'd make it again. Our dinner was great! The bone in rib roast was delicious! I'd never made one before. It was very smokey to cook & our smoke alarm went off every time I opened the oven, but other than that it was good.

My DB thinks he makes the best turkey ever- uh not so much- so dry!! I'm not going to let him make the turkey again. Then he goes to carve it in slices that are over a half inch thick. I had to choke the turkey down last night- gravy didnt help.
I'm trying to save some turkey by making some a la king. Hopefully i can return some moisture to the meat but it may just fall rigjt apart.
I try to keep my mouth shut but oh his visits get under my skin!
