Just saw this on MUM www.chicagotribune.com/business/breaking/chi-dominicks-locations-purchased-by-joe-caputo-sons-20140127,0,1736602.story My friend lives in DP and she told me that Joe Caputo owns the mall where the Dom's used to be and they always intended on opening up once the lease was done. Now I guess it's sooner then they anticipated. So happy that they are finally getting a big location!! I remember when Joe had a fight with his brother Angelo and started that store in DP that is TINY and the parking lot is from hell.

Joe Caputo & Sons Fruit Market, which owns three grocery stores in the northwest suburbs, has acquired four former Dominick’s locations, the company announced Monday.
The stores, located in Northbrook, Arlington Heights, Des Plaines, and Elk Grove Village, were taken over on January 25, with plans to renovate and reopen them under their new banner beginning this spring.
A 25-year-old, family-owned business, Joe Caputo & Sons Fruit Market is doubling its reach with the acquisition. The independent grocer is affiliated with Chicago-based supermarket network IGA, and currently operates stores in Palatine, Des Plaines and Algonquin.
The Northbrook and Arlington Heights stores are scheduled to reopen by late March or early April, with the Elk Grove location opening soon after that, according to the company. The Des Plaines store is expected to open by the end of the year and will supplant the existing location in that suburb.
Dominick's parent, California-based Safeway Inc., closed the 72-store grocery chain Dec. 28, affecting more than 6,000 workers.
Milwaukee-based Roundy's Supermarkets, the parent company of Mariano's, acquired 11 Dominick’s stores for $36 million, with plans to begin reopening them in February. Jewel bought four locations, reopening them under their own banner earlier this month.
