My favorite is stargazer lilies. I was at piggy wiggly last week and they had a bunch for $1.99. I bought one for myself! Lilacs are second. We bought bushes 2 years ago. Looking forward to those blooming this year.

I love roses. I used to have a couple dozen bushes but got tired of the battle with the Japanese beetles every year. Last winter killed off my knockout oses and I never got to replace them.

I love flowers! I'm not a big petunia fan since everyone has those, but they are still pretty. I like portulaca which is a flowering ground cover and really low maintenance. I also like shasta daisies and these other ones that open at night.

The guy at Home Depot gave me a HUGE discount so I could give some Lily's to my inlaws and the neighbor who has no family here--and her husband died in July. I saw the price and said--oh higher than I can afford He asked me if he did it for this price would I buy some I said SURE GOT huge lily plants with a planter for 9.00--normally almost 20.00 The guy walked me up to the register and said--mismarked give it to her for this price Super nice of him! My inlaws were thrilled Wish I could have afforded one more for our house-but the joy if giving is better!!

CTS, you are the best!!
I'm a sucker for a Johnny Jump Ups and almost any kind of violet or pansy -- What can I say, I love purple! I also love the new trailing petunias for the pop of color in a hanging basket. Most of all, though, I love fragrant flowers. Mini carnations are some of my favorite cut flowers. I also love gardenia, stock, and I'm in the middle of planting 60 re-blooming dwarf Josee lilacs as a hedge around our backyard. I got them super cheap (and super small) from Michigan bulb and they came in the mail last week. I'm also working on growing several varieties of Echinacea and some annuals from seed. Someday I might plant a few floribunda roses, if I can find some that are pest- and disease-resistant, fragrant, low-maintenance, and don't cost an arm and a leg (Yeah, that will happen).
I also love phlox. I love when we're hiking, and I smell it before I see it. I splurged and ordered 3 heirloom varieties from a Phlox specialty nursery in Vermont.

Aldi has potted hyacinths for $3.99. I bet they are marked down this week! I bought one for my mom & a potted tulip for my MIL. The lilies were in rough shape, but the hyacinths & tulips looked great.

Lucky- are you taking pictures of your yard transformation? I want to see it! Damom- great deal at Home Depot! It's really nice of you to think of your neighbor. It will be awhile before things look pretty. The lilacs I got were 6 inches tall. Not kidding. And the things I'm growing from seed won't bloom this year (except the annuals). I need some kind of boundary to keep my kid in and the deer (and ticks) out. I will take pics though
The cranes are really whooping it up out on the pond way out in the woods since they arrived. Maybe we'll see a baby crane this year.

Can you see the pond? Or make a pathway? Like an enchanted pathway for Kermie?
