If you need ideas - here's what I did (and yes it was under $40 - one of the items went AWOL). The person behind me must have paid for a package of chocolate they weren't expecting.
Canned pumpkin $0.89 Chicken breasts (frozen) $6.49 Salmon burgers (frozen) $3.99 X 3 Organic soymilk $2.49 X 3 100% juice boxes $1.99 Bread $1.69 Halloween candy $2.49 Mini chocolate bar $1.99 X 2 Vegetable Chips $1.79 $38.76 - $10 = $28.76
No manager approval needed.
Saw brand name chocolate chips for $1.99 and also Welch's 100% juice (kid sized bottles) for $12.98.
Will have to make another run, but was happy to get what I could and it is all DS5 friendly. Well except for the Halloween candy - that's for me at work. SSHHH - don't tell him.

Salmon burgers...interesting, never had one. How do you prepare them? Do you eat them on a bun? What condiments do you put on them? I'm thinking of stocking up on ground beef. My children (DD15, DS & DH) have a Hamburger Helper thing going on. IDK why.

I just fry them up like regular burgers. And yes, you can do exactly the same thing as hamburgers - lettuce tomato cheese. They are good with thousand island dressing rather than mayo. Sadly they have changed the ingredients and I didn't check before buying. They have both glucose and corn something-or-other. So I once again have food in the freezer that I can't serve DS5. The outer packaging was the same, but when I took them out the inner packaging was different and they didn't look the same. They'll still taste good though.

My children (DD15, DS & DH) have a Hamburger Helper thing going on. IDK why. DH went thru a HH phase. He ate it everyday for lunch for about 6 months. After I bought 30 boxes the next day he decided he doesn't like it anymore & it was gross I ended up donating it to Padens monthly food drive at school. 6 boxes a month. His kindergarten teacher probably thought that is all I could cook.

They just sent me over an official statement: "At ALDI, we are committed to providing shoppers with the highest quality products at the lowest possible prices every single day. We understand the confusion that some customers experienced with the recent digital coupon featuring $10 off a $40 purchase at our stores. The coupon was available for download for a limited time and it can be used through November 15 in all ALDI locations."
